going to the beach, and you make sure they are dry when storing them in their
plastic box, then they could last three years (30 times to the beach) or more. On
the other hand, if you use them every day or night, then I would suggest chang-
ing to a new pair after about 60 days. I've used the same pair, every night for up
to four months, but after about two months of daily use they begin to dry out

In 1952 I experienced a series of ear infections caused, in part, by spending too much
time at the bottom of a swimming pool. My eardrum ruptured, not in the center, but along
the edge, making it impossible for the tympanic membrane to heal, and difficult to surgi-
cally repair.
Since that time, any drop of water in the ear from swimming or even a shower, causes
great discomfort, if not infection. Thus, I had to forgo a number of favorite activities such
as swim- ming under water. I developed a rather pathetic set of swimming techniques, all
of which required that I keep my head above water. I had to sit out when people played
in the surf or snorkeled. This has gone on for forty-five years and I am well-known in my
family for swimming in my hat and glasses.

I live on a busy street and the traffic has been a big problem when it comes to sleep at
night. After many years of using white noise that helped somewhat, the white noise
started getting on my nerves. I decided to try ear plugs and bought a pair of the foam
ones you can find at any drug store. What a pain in the neck and ears they were. They
hurt and they constantly popped out. It would take me up to ten minutes just to get them
